A false teaching found in Mormonism is that every person that has ever lived and died is a child of God. Nothing people can do on earth can change the fact that they are the sons and daughters of the Father. This teaching comes from their belief in the pre-existence. In this belief, they were born from their Heavenly Father and Mother. There, people existed as spirits before coming to earth. However, as you search the Bible it speaks against us existing before we came to earth. It also teaches that through faith in Jesus people are adopted sons and daughters of God. Speaking of the pre-existence, John the Baptist even spoke against it. Although he was born before Jesus, he said that Jesus came before him. “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.” (John 1:29,30) Jesus has always existed but John’s spirit was breathed into him during the time of his mother’s pregnancy.
The Bible teaches that we can become a child of God through faith in Jesus, our Lord. We are not automatically made God’s sons and daughters, but adopted in when we repent and put our trust in Jesus alone. It is written concerning Jesus. “He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:11-13) What you read here in scripture is true. Now, who will you believe? The Bible or the leaders of your church? I often wonder why people desire to believe something when the Bible says something entirely different. As for me and other Christians out there, our trust is in the Lord. We love to read the Bible daily and allow God’s Words to sink deep into our souls. This way when we hear a false teaching like everyone being a child of God we can know that it is false and to help these people come to know the truth also. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I am so grateful to have You in my life. You are so good to me. Truly, I don’t deserve to be called Your son after all I’ve done in my life. You should have rejected me and put me out of Your sight a long time ago, but You continued to see my potential. Thank You for not giving up on me. You heard my cries and had compassion upon my soul. There is mercy in the Lord for it is for me. I wish that every person could experience Your forgiveness and mercy. It is like a load is lifted off our shoulders when we know that our sins are forgiven. It is my prayer that people will come to know You Jesus also and be saved. Help them know about Your goodness. It may take giving up false beliefs in order to desire to become Your son or daughter but it will be worth it. Once people understand what this really means to be called Your child, people will do whatever it takes to put aside their own beliefs and have faith in You alone. I pray this happens with more people in this life. Every person that says they believe in You needs to know what it means to be Your son and daughter also. I love You, Lord. I trust in You, God. Have Your way in my life. Amen.
