It is amazing what God does in our lives and the people of the past. Just look at Joseph in Egypt. He was accused of wanting to rape Potiphar’s wife wrongfully and then God places a specific person in prison with him that would help him get out. God does these types of things time and time again, although we don’t always give Him thanks for what happens. And now as we read the story of Joseph in jail, you will see how he jumped at the opportunity to help two other men in prison with him. This is a sure sign of God working in Him, for his love towards others didn’t fail him even though it could have very easily. It is written, “and it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt. And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers. And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound. And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward.” (Genesis 40:1-4)
Joseph’s encounters with these two men, who dreamed dreams that needed interpretation, are next. It is written, “and they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison. And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad. And he asked Pharaoh’s officers that were with him in the ward of his lord’s house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day? And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.” (Genesis 40:5-8) Joseph noticed how sad these two men were and did not leave them in their sorrows. Instead, he told them that he would help them know their dreams. However, in doing so, he made them understand that it is God in him revealing the dream and not Joseph. For God is the interpreter of dreams not us. Praise God for his humility and for telling them the truth. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that You will help me understand the Bible and my dreams better. I am a dreamer and many times I cannot make sense of the things I witnessed while dreaming. The same things happen when I am reading a very difficult verse that could be given over to many different interpretations. I am slow to give my opinion and quick to say things only if You are leading me. I would never wish to lead anyone astray into believing a false doctrine that came forth because of a false interpretation of a chapter and verse in the Bible. I know this happens in many different denominations and cults, but I don’t wish to get myself involved in such things. I believe You left us the gift of the Holy Ghost. Even to those people who are born again through water and the Spirit. I still remember the day that I came out of the waters in baptism, I was filled with the fire of the Holy Spirit. Nothing on earth was going to stop me now from telling everyone I know about You, Jesus. But not just them did I want to tell, but everyone at work, in supermarkets, the streets, and more. I had experienced Your great love and now I wished to tell everyone else about it and that you really do save. I love You, Lord. Amen.
