Keeping Ourselves Worthy For Our Spouse And God

Sex is between husband and wife and anything else is abominable before God. This includes pornography, which is very wicked in God’s sight. This decision to not do these things is living a moral and chase life for the Lord. By not giving into our lustful thoughts we are resisting doing things that we will later regret. We are also keeping ourselves worthy for our current or future spouse and Jesus, who saves. Therefore, if you are single, find a good person that you are attracted to in the faith and marry them when time is right. And remember to keep your eyes on your spouse, when married, and on the Lord. Do as Paul directed in 1 Timothy, chapter 5, when he said, 1“I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. For some are already turned aside after Satan.” As you can see here, continuing to be single, while giving into the lusts of the flesh is doing the will of the devil and not God. So I pray that when you find that person that you can spend this life with in marriage, that you jump on the opportunity. And if you love that person, then keep your thoughts pure while around him or her, keeping yourself for the wedding day. What a wonderful day that will be when your new life begins. At this point, remember to also find a good church to go to. A place where they are teaching from the Word of God, the Bible, and keeping to every word that is taught. This will grow your own spiritual life with Christ and your spouses also. And when both of you surrender to Jesus, then your home will be a place of peace and great joy, where children can come in and learn the ways that are right. Truly a family that loves the Lord is on God’s path to heaven.

As couples, we are to seek the Lord daily and learn from Him each day of our lives. We do this by reading and studying the Bible together as a couple and praying often. This was the directive of Paul, as he said, be ye people that 1“trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.” This will strengthen your marriage and help you grow in your relationship and your relationship with the Lord. This will help a lot, as you no longer follow the Lord alone but you have your spouse to help you walk in His ways. A husband and wife seeking the Lord together is a marriage founded on the rock of Jesus. What a beautiful thing this is and if you have this type of marriage now, cherish every minute of it. Continue in the faith each day and lean on each other when temptation strikes. Don’t stay down because of sin, but confess them one and to another and to God, that He may make you whole again. We will never be perfect in this life, but we can strive to live in God’s holiness, which will help us look to God and do His will above all else. Now when it comes to sin, remember what Paul said here, 1“some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.” Sin can be a barrier in our own lives and our marriage, but with the Lord Jesus at the head, it can all be swept away and we can be made clean by His blood. Continue to trust in God daily, that you may always reach for him when there are trials and He will give you peace. The elders of your church can also help, so never forget them when hard times come. Lean on others in the faith and God and all things will work out for the good.

Let us pray:
I pray Lord that more people will learn to love You and to follow in Your ways. May the younger generation especially resist temptation and not give into porn, sex, drugs and alcohol. Porn can truly deter a person from a relationship with You and a relationship with their future spouse. Pornography and fornication is an abomination in Your sight and it is sad to see so many people into such filth. Sexual thoughts for another person and having sex before marriage is never right, but certainly wrong and I pray that people will wake up to this before it is too late. This sinful lifestyle, while adding drinking and doing drugs is only following Satan, which leads to death. I know that this type of lifestyle will keep people from either not marrying or marrying for the wrong reasons. So I pray Lord that people will confess their sins and give their whole hearts to You, starting today. This will change everything. Thank You for Lord for leading me to my spouse and for her being a good example to me in the faith. This has truly steered me in the right direction and to look to You in the faith. Now I am forgiven by Your blood and can walk in faith and not by the vile passions of the flesh. I love You and trust in You, God. Amen.

11 Timothy 5 (KJV)
1 Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
2 The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
3 Honour widows that are widows indeed.
4 But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.
5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.
6 But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.
7 And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.
8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man.
10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
15 For some are already turned aside after Satan.
16 If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
18 For the scripture saith, thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
19 Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.
20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
21 I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.
22 Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.
23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.
24 Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.
25 Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

  1. Hi brother, this reminds me of a Spurgeon quote- “those who pray together do well. Those who also read together do better. And those who pray, read and sing together do best of all!”
