Nobody can teach us how to love God over this world. An open heart to God is the key to having such knowledge. We cannot expect this understanding to come from ourselves or someone else. We are weak, if the Lord is not with us. How can we stand against sin, if our flesh is open to the passions of this world? The answer is, we cannot fight this fight alone. We may have good intentions but without the Holy Spirit, by our side, we are like walking ducks. Temptations of the devil will take a toll on our lives if we are not allowing the Lord to lead our lives. We need to learn how to fight against sin. Read what David said when he spoke on this matter. 1“Blessed be the Lord my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.” And what was the Lord teaching Him to fight against? It was to not fall victim to the lies of wicked people and to the temptations of sin. You are welcome to replace the quote above with your addiction. If it is pornography, you could say, Lord, help me to no longer fall victim to my lusts for women. If it is smoking, you could say, Lord, help me to throw out all my cigarettes and have no more desires for them. If it is drinking, you could say, Lord, lead me away from bars and anything that can lead me back to drinking. Your addiction may not be listed above but the Lord knows what it is. He knows you so well, as to help you through it and cleanse you from all sin. Come unto Him and you will be made clean.
With the Lord on our side, we become valiant fighters for His kingdom. We understand that the Lord knows us well and is able to see through our weaknesses and give us strengths. God makes an account of everything we do in life. Don’t you think, with this knowledge, He is able to give you sound advice? He sure can, but you must be willing to submit your lives to Him. Everyone that allows the Lord to work in their lives, is able to fight against the influences of sin. These are those that are able to resist the poisons of this world. We are able to resist our drug of choice, with the Lord on our side. The same drug that has power over us now or in the past, will have no more influence over us. Once the healing power of Jesus comes into our lives, we are stronger to resist. The blood of Jesus covers all sin and will begin a change in our hearts and minds. God is even able to change our thoughts and desires. Our passions for what is right wins out every time, with the Lord God is at the head. When people attempt to try our faith, we will stand tall. A faith, that is made whole with Christ the Lord, is strong to resist any temptation. Through the Lord’s presence, the chains of addiction are cut loose. Our faith becomes our shield and we are able to stand strong. Those in the faith are no longer in the bondage of sin. Our desires are to follow the Lord over sin. I pray that your heart is with the Lord always. Confess your sins today and be made right with God.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I know that only You can give me the power to fight against sin. You make me strong to resist temptation. I am weak without Your presence in my life. I need Your counsel to know the right path to follow. I do not wish to be sent in many different directions in life, for I know that all things lead to destruction, if they are not pointed to You. Help me to not fall victim to sin, especially willful sin. Anything that is contrary to Your will, please do not allow it to come into my life. If there is anything in my life now that is leading me apart from You, prick my heart, that I may know Your will. I do not wish to live in any addiction or sin that You hate. Give me strength to resist temptation and fight valiantly for Your cause. I confess that I need Your divine interventions to be made stronger in life. I need You in my life every day. You are my strength and the rock of my salvation. Where shall I turn but to You? I love You. Amen.
