One of the biggest contradictions in the Book of Mormon, compared to the Bible, comes from 2 Nephi, chapter 25. As Christians, we know that God’s Word, the Bible, teaches that by grace are we saved through faith and faith alone in Jesus. Our works don’t save us, but our faith in Christ. On the contrast, Mormons believe in a works-based salvation. Through doing their temple ordinances they will work their way up through the Celestial kingdom in heaven. Those that are married in their temples will be exalted to Godhood, where they will reach the highest degree of glory. So their faith in Jesus alone cannot do this for them. They must go through the temple, get married, and continue to do these ordinances until they die to reach the highest and best place in heaven. Will they ever do enough? No. It is written in their book. “For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.” (2 Nephi 25:23) Saved after all we can do does not work.
The Bible is clear that we cannot work our way to heaven. Anybody who thinks they can are really doing evil in God’s sight. Even their own works are filthy rags in God’s sight. The truth of the matter is that our faith in Jesus alone saves us and nothing else we can do on our own. It is true that works come later on as a fruit of a person’s faith, but no person is saved through any of these works. It is written in God’s Holy Bible, “for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:8-10) Faith plus works is alive as James said also. Therefore, we don’t simply do nothing for God’s kingdom, but are led by the Holy Spirit and do as God says. It is after we have faith in Christ that God transforms our lives. We are no longer doing our own works, but God who does the works in us. We give God thanks for saving us through our faith and then He is able to do so much in our lives. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people who say they love You will come to know the truth. It is one thing to say we love You, but another thing to do as You say. The truth is, most people are not led by the Holy Spirit and only do what their flesh desires. This is happening in many churches also like Mormonism. The men wear shirts and ties, while the women wear modest dresses to church. They look very religious, but inwardly, they are walking zombies to the teachings of their false prophets. Lord, it is sad knowing that I have family in this cult. They are very hard-hearted when it comes to knowing anything different than what their church teaches. You have revealed to me that their works for the dead are an abomination in Your sight. That their works in their temples are wicked. They are filthy rags and nothing more. Lord, wake them up to the dangers ahead of their lives. I do not wish to see anyone in that false religion wake up and go to hell when they die. Therefore, lead them to the truth through people in the faith, dreams, visions, and more. I trust in You, God. I love You, Lord. Amen.
