The walk of a Christian is much different than a person without Christ in their life. Even our very nature is now in line with God, for we hate even the appearance of evil that we might walk in God’s holiness instead. Yes, my friends, though we are in the flesh now, it does not mean that we have to walk in willful sin as others do in this world. This is because God is our buckler and shield to everyone who puts their trust in Him. Temptations have come and gone and will continue coming our way, even like a raging war until our last breath. However, that does not mean we have to fight against them alone. Surely, we can the battles that are before us if we do so in prayer and supplication unto God for protection. “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)” (2 Corinthians 10:3,4) Do you believe this to be true? I hope so. If you are a true believer in Jesus, then you will put Him first in your life. This means allowing Him to abide with you at all times. Doing so will let Him light up your path that darkness may be scattered. And if there is light that abounds in your life, then darkness will have a harder time entering. This is because God’s mighty angels are now with you also.
Speaking of God working in us and fighting on our behalf, Paul said that He does the following for those who trust in Him. “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? if any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s.” (2 Corinthians 10:5-7) Wow! God is so good. There is no war or battle that we can lose in this life if God is with us. There is also no addiction, bad habit, or willful sin of any kind, that we cannot put a stop to if we let God into our lives. Confessing our sins to God and to the person we offended is the first thing. Then, we ask God for mercy and grace. That because we are now humbled before God, we are asking for Him to help us turn from our wicked ways. In our hearts we have already repented, but now need His strength to help us fully overcome the enemy. This is telling God that He is our refuge in the good times and the storms of life. And if you are His, then you are also Christ’s, and His power is now in you. Think on these things. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, my God, and my fortress. I call upon You now in honor and praise. You are my buckler and my shield. I am safe and have nothing to fear, for You are with me now. The darkness is scattered and Your light abounds. I am in awe at Your great wonders and might. Have Your way in my life, dear God. You are my King and I am Your servant. Call upon me and I will obey. Your ways are like honey to my mouth. I want more of You and less of me. If Your holiness abounds, then I am led from the enemy and into righteousness. This is what my soul desires. To live in obedience unto my God and my King. Fight every battle that comes before You. I am stronger when I am in prayer and supplication unto You, Jesus. Sup with me a little longer. Allow Your Spirit to stay with me. Many times my flesh is weak, but that does not have to happen any longer. You make everything stronger, even my willpower to resist temptation. No matter the things that the enemy tries to trick me on, it does not match the things You have to offer me. In this life, I am building up treasures in heaven, not on earth. I will lose many that I know and see now, but if I still have You in my life, then I have everything. Until my last breath will I call upon Your Name, dear Lord and Savior, and give You praise. I trust in You, Jesus. I love You. Amen.
