Every person in the church needs to read Romans, chapter 15, in order to understand what it means to love one another. As for this message, we will focus on just the first seven verses in order for you to understand what I am meaning. It reads, “we then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.” (Romans 15:1-7) It is here that Paul helps everyone in the faith know what true love is. That is in short, to please others and not ourselves. We do good unto others without expecting anything back in return. I know this takes effort, but when we read the Bible daily and pray often, these things become natural in our lives. This is doing good unto all people as Jesus taught us. Will you obey Him?
I just mentioned how these verses relate to love, but it means so much more than this. We that are strong in the faith ought to help those that are weak. This can also mean helping people who are struggling physically or mentally. Where we act upon their needs. If people don’t have much and cannot buy food or clothes for their families, we supply what we can for them. Many people are in a very bad place in their lives and just need someone to talk to, and to pray for and with them. Really, if we find anyone who is in need, we are jump at the opportunity to serve them, as we serve God, the Father. This is love with action involved along with it. What God wants from each one of us in the faith is to become likeminded one towards another in the ways of the Lord. People should be able to see us from a crowd of people and know that we are a Christian. Not because we make a scene, but by the way we treat one another with respect and love. It is obvious also in our conversations, for we talk of Christ and are not shy to do so either. So as people do this in the church they are conforming to God’s will and not the world. Therefore, their minds are becoming more and more like Jesus’s each day. Now, don’t forget to show love unto all people, not just Christians, as He did also. Opening up your homes to serve others is also a great way to showcase that love. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that we will learn how to love one another. That we will remember that when we do good unto others, we are also doing it unto You. So when we help a person who is struggling financially with their groceries, we jump in and pray for them without even thinking twice. And we are not looking for anything paid back in return also. Doing good unto others doesn’t need anything credited back to us, for we just want to love one another as You love us, Jesus. We know that we can be a light in this wicked and perverse generation if we just continue to seek You daily. I know that to be true, for every day that I remain connected to You in constant prayer and studying the Bible, all I want to do is tell people about You, Jesus, and do good unto others. It is the Spirit of God that has transformed me into the person You have always wanted. Sometimes I slip up and do my own things, but I am so grateful that You continue to forgive me when I return to You. It is like my slate is wiped clean all over again. You are so merciful and just, and continue to use me over and over, though my flesh is weak. Thank You, Lord, for continuing to trust in me over these many years. You have given me boldness to speak to people about You and Your gospel. I am also unafraid to approach people in need now and supply their needs. You are my guide and I will follow You. I love You. Amen.
