John was surely a man of God, for he understood what it meant to lift up the Lord Jesus, while he himself decreased. He didn’t want any glory for himself in the ministry he was performing on earth, but to simply bring souls unto Christ. I love it when he said, “a man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:27-30) This is the example of the true believer, for he rejoices when he hears God’s voice. This is when their joy is fulfilled in their lives. It is not what they are doing for themselves, but what Jesus is doing in them. That is why they are willing to decrease while Jesus increases. This is when Jesus is able to abide in us, for He has become what we need to be happy. And because of this, people can’t help but see Jesus in us and rejoice.
John said, “he that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony. He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” (John 3:31-36) Wow, this is such a great testimony. Truly, all those that receive Jesus Christ, his seal is upon them. Which seal we know is the Spirit of promise, to those that believe in Jesus unto salvation. And if you believe in Jesus, then walk in his ways also. Then, you can be led from death unto everlasting life in heaven. This is not said to those who believe not. God’s wrath is upon every unbeliever and worker of iniquity. So we repent and get right with God.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I love You and give You everything that I am. What I do in life does not matter unless You are leading me. Therefore, I come to people and lift You up, that You may become more important than myself. It is my desire for people of all walks of life and of all ages to come to know You, Jesus, as their Lord God and Savior. That they will begin seeking You daily through prayer, Bible study, and doing Your will. That their belief may no longer be something they say they have, but it is now who they are from the inside out. Truly, I cannot abide enough in Your presence, for in You alone is there eternal life. It is not through the teachings of this world, but through abiding in You can I discover what my purpose is in life. Truly, only You can lead me into the truth. I am able to escape the darkness and be led into Your glorious life. And Lord, I admit that I am nothing without You. I may have accomplished things, but those things are meaningless unless You had a hand in it. And because You did, I give You the glory and tell others to give You the glory also. I say, “do not lift me up, but lift up the Lord God who saves.” I love You, Jesus. I give You glory and praise. Amen.
