Mormon missionaries and other members therein will constantly remind people that only their church is true. This is because the fullness of the gospel was restored to their prophet Joseph Smith and to Jesus’s church. But what has been restored to the earth that the early church had and is missing? They say things like, baptisms for the dead, eternal marriage, temple buildings, the priesthood for men, becoming gods, pre-existence, a heavenly mother, prophets, and more needed to be restored to the earth. That these were plain and precious truths lost over time. However, when asking these same Mormons where these teachings were taught in the New Testament, they can’t find anything relative to the actual belief. But if it was a restoration, then the early church would have at least had these teachings in their church outside the Bible and in dead sea scrolls writings. However, they don’t exist there either. So what is really happening here? Was anything restored that once existed in the early church? No. Absolutely nothing. So that begs the question, what kind of restoration is this? What we find is simply new modern-day revelations that bring about man-made teachings. Nothing was restored but simply things revealed to their false prophets. A revelation that surely was not of God, but from the enemy, Satan.
To help you understand where Mormons have gone wrong with the importance of the restoration, we need to look at their claims that there was an apostasy. They claim that based on 2 Thessalonians 2, the church had fallen into apostasy and that God needed to restore His church through Joseph Smith. For you to get the context of these verses, we will read them now. “Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” (2 Thessalonians 2:1-4) Here we learn about people going astray during the times right before Jesus’s return. This is when the son of perdition or the anti-Christ is revealed, when he blasphemes in the temple in Jerusalem. Has this happened yet? No. And does it say that the church will be destroyed? No. Only certain people will fall away. Therefore, a church restoration is not needed. We can know this by reading the Bible.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that many more Mormons will be saved before their time is up. I believe that many of them are truly seeking the truth of God and can be saved, but they must allow Your messengers to speak truth to them also. As You led men of faith to reach out to the lost in the early church, I truly believe the time is now for more Christians to step out in faith and witness to the lost. This includes the people in the Mormon faith, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Catholics, and other false religions. People need to understand that we cannot be adding to or taking away the precious truths in the Bible, and causing people to not read it is wrong too. That we cannot add to our beliefs, the teachings of men. There is only one God and You are that God who I serve and worship. Not three individual gods. That would be blasphemy. I also know that worshipping idols is so wrong, so I pray that if anyone has idols in their houses, that they will break them all to pieces. This includes Mary. Truly, You are God, Jesus, and also the son of God. This is made clear in scriptures and for people to teach that only the Father is God is teaching heresy. The same goes for people who teach that only Your Father can be worshipped. Thank You, Lord, for giving me wisdom and for leading me to the lost, of whom are ready to receive You. I love You more than anything else. You deserve the highest praise. Amen.
