God And His Angels Are A Consuming Fire

God and His angels are a consuming fire.  We see God as a consuming fire when He appeared to Moses on Mount Sinai.  This is that encounter.  “And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush.” (Exodus 3:2-4)  We also learn that the new earth will not have a sun, for Jesus will brighten the sky with the fire radiating from Him.  “And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” (Revelation 21:23)  This all makes sense as Paul taught that God is a consuming fire.  It is written, “wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:28-29)  God is Spirit and is able to appear as man, and as a flaming fire.  Is this different then what you thought God would look like?

What about angels?  Are they also a flaming fire like God?  Absolutely.  David wrote the following to help us know this.  Speaking of God, “who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind: Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire. (Psalm 104:3,4)  Angels are spirits and are like God the Father, having a spiritual form made up of fire.  Jesus was like this also before becoming flesh and being born of a virgin.  “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.” (John 1:14)  Angels are known are stars in heaven because of their brightness in appearance, which we know fire to be bright.  “Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” (Job 38:6,7)    Lastly, angels, much like Jesus did in the Old Testament, are also able to transform themselves and take on flesh.  This is why Paul said, “be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” (Hebrews 13:2)  Many of us could have talked to angels and not realized it.  Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that we will give You the type of reverence and respect that You deserve. I fear the Lord, my God, who is above the earth and in the heavens. You are worthy to be feared and praised above all. I know that You are a consuming fire and will return in flames of fire also, Jesus. This will cause people to fear You on that great and dreadful day of the Lord, although Your people have already feared You and given You glory since the beginning of time. God, it is a pleasure to have the King of Glory in my life. Do I deserve Your presence with me? Absolutely not. Thankfully, Your compassion and mercy have consumed me and my old life is no more. I am alive in You, Jesus. God, I love You, and doing Your will is the least I can do. Speak to me as my heart is open to receive Your wise counsel. Lead and guide me as You instruct the angels in heaven. As flames of fire that do Your will perfectly as it is in heaven, I will also perform Your duties as best as I can. One day, when this temple body comes to rest in the earth, receive my spirit in paradise. I want to be where You are, Jesus. I give You glory and praise. In Your holy Name, I pray this. Amen.

  1. Yes. Jesus is light. He is the light of our lives. I’ve read many Near Death Experiences. Not all can be trusted. But, there are certain verifying marks. Seeing Jesus as pure light is one of them. It is verified by Scripture. Something else that people who claim to have been to heaven say is that there is no apparent light other than Jesus.
