We shall not be found empty but full when we learn to fear God. For in so doing, we are mindful of His commandments, and His laws are no longer a burden. Just being in His presence, we know how powerful the Lord really is. Whatever He says we should do immediately, not asking any questions. Don’t think twice when God calls your name, nor limit His power. Speaking of those who live a life for God, they are blessed, for their treasures are in heaven. On earth, we may not have much, but in heaven we will have a 1000% more than any rich person ever had on earth. God’s judgments are true and so are His rewards for the righteous. If only people could learn to love God and keep His commandments. Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15) We should print this on our walls to live by. David also helps us understand the reason in these verses. Speaking of God, “He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant. He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen. The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.” (Psalm 111:5-7)
God’s commandments stand forever. Even our laws are made up of different commands from God like “thou shalt not steal”, and “thou shalt not kill”. And in homes, the following commands are sought after, “honour thy father and thy mother”, “thou shalt not commit adultery”, “thou shalt not bear false witness”, and “thou shalt not covet”. The wicked and the righteous know that these commands are good to keep. It is the rest that God’s people know and keep also. And it isn’t hard to do, for God is doing the work in us. So we only worship one God and bow down to Him alone, His Name is kept sacred, and we rest on the Sabbath day. David continued and wrote, “they stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness. He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.” (Psalm 111:8-10) Truly, when we fear God, we also live up to His standards. We put Him first and then His wisdom flows deep in our lives. This keeps us in obedience to Him. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that You will keep me and others in the faith upright, and in keeping Your commandments. I know that I am incapable of living up to Your standards on my own, but with You in my life, I can do all things. Your power is greater than anything the world has ever seen. Nothing matches what You have already accomplished in this world and what You will accomplish in our lives. God, have Your way in me. If I have done anything that is pleasing in Your sight, then You have done it all. All my works are as filthy rags. Lord, I look forward to You in faith. It doesn’t matter if You take place me places I have never gone before, I will go willingly. No matter if You have me do different things I have never done before, I will do it. No matter if I am put in a place where I would normally feel uncomfortable, I will remain with the courage and strength You give me. All I ask is that You give me words to speak to people as I open my mouth to preach and teach. It is my prayer that You will use me for Your kingdom. Even to help others know You, Jesus, and also for salvation. Give us wisdom, God. Your commands are a delight to my soul. I love You, Jesus. I honor You and give You praise. Amen.
