Can We Eat The Fat Or Blood In Animals?

According to God’s laws in the old covenant, people were told to not eat the fat of animals or the blood of animals. God’s laws are specific on not eating meat that does not have the blood cooked out and the fat removed. For this reason, they avoided eating pigs for it was unclean, and we know bacon is very fatty. Now, when it comes to this law, it is written, “and he shall offer thereof his offering, even an offering made by fire unto the Lord; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, which is by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away. And the priest shall burn them upon the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire for a sweet savour: all the fat is the Lord’s. It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.” (Leviticus 3:14-17)

So as Christians in the new covenant, does it say that we can now eat foods with blood in them, along with fat? Not exactly. Although times are different with Christ fulfilling the laws of Moses, he also did not abolish them either. Therefore, people that obey laws from the Old Testament, we should not treat them any differently in the faith. One thing that is certain is this, if people decide to not eat foods with blood or fat, we are not to judge them. The same goes for people eating steaks rare done and bacon, we are not to judge them also. Paul said, “let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.” (Colossians 2:16,17) The same goes for people who obey the Sabbath, which I do. We are not to judge others on their sabbath worship. These are very important things to think about. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that You will help us make the right choices when it comes to the foods we eat and beverages we drink. In the world we live in, there are many people who would say that one things is good for our bodies and others that would say the exact opposite. Even things we once thought were good for us are now deemed to be toxic and could kill us over time. Therefore, I pray for Your guidance and direction on what I should be consuming. I don’t wish to accidentally eat or drink something that would be detrimental to my health or the health of my wife and my kids. Help me lead them in Your ways and not mine. As I read in Leviticus, I love how You gave specific reasons why certain foods were not good for people. And now I need that same guidance in what is good for us now to eat and to drink. Help me to live a long and healthy life, that way I can serve You to the best of my ability. I love You, Lord. I trust in You. Amen.
