The Law Was Our Schoolmaster Until Christ

The laws of God have always helped us know God’s will for mankind. Now, in the times of Moses, God gave unto him even more laws outside the ten commandments, which we still honor and obey the ten as Jesus speaks of them. Many of these laws were sacrificial in nature, but pointed us to Christ, and called the laws of Moses. However, with Jesus coming to the scene and then later sacrificing for our sins on the cross He became the last perfect lamb to be sacrificed, even the Lamb of God. That is why these laws of Moses are no longer over us like in times past. Paul even spoke of this and said, “is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.” (Galatians 3:21-25) We are not justified by works of the law any longer, but through our faith alone in Christ Jesus, which brings about good works. He is our supplier and our strong tower.

Those who have faith in Jesus are blessed in this life and the next. This same faith is what propels people to do good works for God and the first work is often baptism. You see, in baptism, the fruits of our faith in Jesus are on display, of which we put on Christ. Jesus said to abide in Him and we make this decision the day we are baptized in water and the Spirit. Only God can cause us to be born again and receive a new nature to no longer willfully sin as the world does. This makes us children of God, for we love the Lord and also do as He says. Paul also said, “for ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” (Galatians 3:26-29) There is no person of a certain skin color that is excluded from these promises given to Abraham and his seed. You see, we are all heirs to God’s promises the moment we give our lives to following Jesus. It is amazing that all we need now is Jesus to lead us. This causes us to live a life that pleases God. His presence is all we need.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that we will all press in to follow You. That we will not deviate from the path that leads to paradise in the new earth and heavens above. I just wish to be in Your presence for all eternity. Let not our flesh give way to the evil one, but help us to escape the temptations that come our way. May more people find You, Jesus, and be saved before their last breath. There are many people that go to church on the weekends that are on the fence of going all in to follow You and I pray this ends soon. We do not know the day that our life will come to a close. As for me, I will follow You, Lord. Wherever You lead me, I will go. Look into my soul and convict me of any wrongdoings and sinful actions. Once found out, I will certainly confess them and no longer press into them. I do not wish to grieve the Holy Spirit by continuing to sin willfully but to abide in Your presence at all times and in all places. I respect You and will by Your commands and not by what the flesh desires. Thank You for giving me the best example of how to live this life, Jesus. I look to You in faith, for in You is eternal life and joy that never ends. Help people understand that You are looking at our hearts and if You have them or not. I give You mine, Lord. I love You with all my heart, mind, and soul. Have Your way in my life forevermore. I am Yours. In Your Name, I pray, Jesus. Amen.
