Fornication Is Grievous In God’s Sight

In God’s eyes, fornication is very much frowned upon. He hates the very thought of it and calls every person who is mixed up with it to repent, lest they leave the faith. And if you are wondering what fornication is, then know that it means having sex outside of marriage, incest, homosexuality, adultery, and porn. If people are involved with such things they are in danger of going to hell. Therefore, the need for much mourning and crying out to God for forgiveness and mercy is necessary to be made clean. Paul wrote, “it is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife. And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, to deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” (1 Corinthians 5:1-5) God sees fornication very differently than most people in this world. Now, I know that this is a lot to take in, but we will get into what he addressed next.

Paul is addressing a very perverse sin in this chapter. A young man who purposely had sex with his mother. He did this with no remorse also, which made the whole situation so terrible. This kind of incest was punishable by death in the Old Testament. That is why this person needed to be judged in their sinful state. The same can be said for people who purposely have sex outside of marriage, are involved in homosexuality, in an adulterous relationship, and look at pornography. These people, if they also have no remorse for what they have done, have also given themselves over to the power of the devil. That is why Paul said to the people that they are delivering this fornicator to Satan. He wants what he gives, so we allow it to happen. Then, and only then, may he wake up to his sins and come back to Jesus before it is too late. Paul also said, “I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.” (1 Corinthians 5:9-11) Not being around such people does not make us stuck up, but simply wanting to be in God’s company. Now, please consider what was spoken in this message and get right with God today, if you haven’t done so already.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will understand the gravity of the sin of fornication. How that people who are intentionally involved with having sex outside of marriage, in homosexual relationships, incest, adulterous relationships, and/or look at pornography, are in danger of going to hell. Surely, the gravity of these sins is causing many people to leave the faith. Once involved with these wicked and abominable things, people have no more need of You, God, for their flesh is what gives them pleasure. They then, so often, start to justify their sins and forget to pray or seek Your hand. It isn’t until people in the faith come to them and tell them the truth of the gospel, that some of them wake up to their sins and get right with You. I know that I was one of them and still do struggle. You know my heart and it is not perfect, God. Even far from it, but thank God that You are still giving me chance after chance to come back to You. Surely, Your mercy is unfailing. We may fail You, but the day that we call upon Your Name, in all our confessions, are we restored into the faith, no questions asked. Thank You, Lord. You know every secret thing I have ever committed and it is an open book before You. Nothing can escape Your awesome presence. And not just me, but every person who is alive now and has ever lived. It is my prayer that I continue to come to You when I do fall, for I know that You will take me back. I also pray for others to continue to look to You in faith and to never lose hope in You, my Lord, and my Savior. I love You, God. Amen.
