Celebrating Palm Sunday

Today we celebrate Palm Sunday and remember the day that Jesus was praised by the Jewish people. This we will open our Bible in John, chapter 12. It reads, “on the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt. These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record. For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle. The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.” (John 12:12-19) What a time as this was on earth. People finally gave glory to Jesus, by shouting Hosanna, blessed is the King of Israel. The same should be done through His believers in this time also. We give Jesus a shout of praise, for He is our God and our Savior. All hail King Jesus!

Palm Sunday is the day that we remember Jesus’s magnificent entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey, and how He was praised that day. This was in fulfillment of the prophesy given to Zechariah in chapter 9, verse 9. In that passage, it reads, “rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.” (Zechariah 9:9) This prophecy was given to Zechariah around 520BC or 500 years before Jesus was born. And much like other prophecies, they did come to pass when Jesus came into the world, and other prophecies are still to come to pass. Now, focusing our attention back on Palm Sunday, we know that Jesus accepted worship that day, for it was His time to be glorified on earth. It was after the people shouted Hosanna and made Jesus their king, the following was written. “And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.” (John 12:23) Surely, the day began at that time to praise the Lord, even Jesus, our God and our Savior. We lift Him up and glorify His Name. Every person who is saved will also give Him a shout and say, “Hosanna to our King”. On this day, remember how the people glorified Jesus and do the same. But not just today, all the days of Your life praise Him. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, this day I give You praise and honor. I celebrate Palm Sunday and also shout Hosanna to King Jesus. You are my God and I worship You. As much as I wish I was on earth when You were here Jesus, I am just so happy to know You now in this lifetime. I know that there will be a day for Your magnificent return and I hope to see You then. And if not then, but at the judgment seat of Christ. In this place, will I be smiling from ear to ear, just waiting for my turn to have You speak to me. For I have been waiting anxiously for this day to see You and to hear Your voice in person. Surely, You are the greatest thing to ever happen to my life. I was broken before I met You, Jesus. I had nothing going for me until You breathed new life into my soul. Yes, Lord, You heard my cries and came into my life like a rushing wind. I am now anxious each day that I have to serve You. Telling people about You, Jesus, is the best thing I can do in this lifetime. There is so much time in each day and to give You my most precious time is the least I can do for my King. It is my desire that You lead me by the hand. I know that I will be guided to greener pastures if You continue to lead me. I have nothing to fear but fear itself, for You have got me. Thank You so much, God, for leading me from temptation and for leading me into Your abundant light. Thank You again for Your forgiveness and mercy. I love You, Jesus. Amen.
