What The Bible Says About Rioting

It was today that the Antifa plus Trump extremists stormed the Washington DC Capital Building. But was that the right thing to do? When it comes to rioting, we must always know if it is God’s will or the will of man. And along with that, it is important to know if we should take heed to our country’s leaders. So is God for rioting at any time or not, according to the Bible? Romans 13 will help figure this all out for us. It reads, “let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.” (Romans 13:1-5) Therefore, we are subject to our leaders in government. Sometimes it may seem difficult because of their evil choices, but still, we trust in God that He will give us the guidance we need. Therefore, pray for safety in times of uncertainty. God will be your refuge in the storms.

Paul continued and said, “love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.” (Romans 13:10-14) So we learn that we are not to cause ill upon our others and this means our enemies also. And we learn that as we love God and our neighbor that we also fulfill the law. At the same time we know that many people are asleep in the faith, but need to wake up for salvation is at hand. Therefore, as Christians, we cast off all our sins and unbelief for God’s sake. This we do by looking to Jesus and allowing Him to build us up in His armor. So we walk in His light, which allows us to be honest people also. As Paul said, we don’t give ourselves over to riot, to get drunk, sleeping around, and doing things that fulfill the lusts of the flesh and not the things of God. Therefore, God’s people should not have rioted at the Capital building today. This comes from God’s Word and not my own thoughts, so heed what He says. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that You will give us guidance and direction in these times of uncertainty. Our country, the United States of America, is going through a very difficult time when it comes to the elections and the coronavirus. This pandemic was already making many people upset, along with the Black Lives Matter’s movement and riots. And now, today, we see that the Antifa plus Trump extremists stormed the Washington DC Capital building, which is very sad. This included many people in the faith, which I will never understand. Have people not read in Romans 13, which reads, “Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.” (Romans 13:13) This is clear, God, that we are not to participate in or lead any riots of any kind. These kinds of acts are uncalled for and should never happen, according to Your holy words. I know that many people are angry inside because of election fraud, so they feel a need to do all that they can to push Trump into office, but this is uncalled for also. You have helped me understand that we cannot force Your hand into doing things we think is right. And the same thing is said when people try to force a president into office. In all of this, I leave these difficult times in Your hand. I just ask that You will give me comfort and peace to know what to do next. Speak to me words of wisdom, for my mind is open. Lead me by the hand, and don’t let my flesh get out of control. I love You. Amen.
