Jesus’s Birth: Matthew 2

When we ponder upon Jesus and His birth, it is good to read the gospel messages in Matthew and Luke and see what it says concerning this most important day in History. Yes, Jesus coming into the world is greater than anything else. No historic event can top this. And today we will look at the three wise men and what they delivered unto our King, who is Jesus. It is written, “now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.” (Matthew 2:1-3) Then, after meeting with Herod the King, he “sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.” (Matthew 2:8) So we know that the three wise men saw a new star in the east, of which God must have put on this hearts that this star led to where Mary, Joseph, and the baby was. Herod’s scribes and priests even knew that it was Bethlehem, of which the Christ child would be born, so he sent them to find the child and then bring him word. However, the wise men knew that Herod was not sincere, so thankfully they trusted God, not him.

It is written about the wise men, “when they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh. And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt.” (Matthew 2:9-14) And so the Lord Jesus received gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. What a great honor this must have been for the wise men to see the Christ child in person. Therefore, we also celebrate Jesus and His birth this time of year in December. Because He came, our sins can be forgiven, while our path is set in motion. With the Holy Spirit as our guide, our Savior is with us at all times. Praise the Lord!

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I am honored to be here with You this day. Thank You for allowing me in Your presence, in order to thank You personally for Your glorious birth. Yes, Jesus, I thank You, God, for coming down to save us from our sins. I wish I was around that time of year on earth, for it would have been a big blessing to see You while You were born or serving on earth. I can just imagine what I would do if I would have seen You in person. Would You have called my name out of the thousands of people You passed by? I would hope so, and even if You didn’t, I would still run up to You, Lord. And after coming up to You, I would not be able to stop myself from crying, falling to my knees, and worshipping You, Jesus. Maybe this will be what it will be like after I die and I can finally see You in person. These many years have I been longing to have a glimpse of what it would be like to have You in my presence physically. Where I could know that You were right by my side. I know that You can show Yourself to me in dreams and visions, but how awesome would it be if You came to me while I was wide awake also. Oh, how I can wish! You are what I need, God. Without You I am nothing, but with You I am everything. Therefore, will I prepare each day to meet You. Not doing what I think is right, but what You would will me to do in this life. I pray that my life speaks volumes of my love and devotion to You, my King. I truly do love You. Even more than You will ever know. I adore You, Jesus. Amen.
