David’s Sin Caused People To Suffer And Die

In 1 Chronicles 21, we get a follow-up of 2 Samuel 24, where 1“the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.” (2 Samuel 24:1) Of Which David did exactly what he thought was best at the time he felt this, but he knew in his heart that he did the wrong thing afterwards. However, how is this the case if God caused him to do this? The answer is he didn’t, but Satan. in 2 Chronicles 21, it reads, 2“and Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.” (2 Chronicles 21:1) Now, this may appear to be a contradiction, but it is far from it, my friends. Looking at the verses in detail, we see that this anger in David was really from Satan. The devil got permission from the Lord, like he did with Job, and tempted David to commit this sin, of which he fell for. David sent Joab to count all the people of Israel and Judah, of which he did and David later wished it never happened, and felt very bad because of what he did. The story continues and reads, 2“and God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.” (1 Chronicles 21:7,8) This then caused God to call the prophet Gad to come to David and for him to choose one of three punishments for his people. Those were, 2“either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the Lord, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the Lord destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. “ (1 Chronicles 21:12) This was a hard decision, but he knew exactly what to say.

David has no choice but to call out for mercy, after hearing this news from God, for the Lord God was very upset. Here, 2“David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the Lord; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man. So the Lord sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men. And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the Lord beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the Lord stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the Lord stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces. And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O Lord my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.” (1 Chronicles 21:13-17) Wow, the people were so sorry for all of their sins, along with David. It was also said that 2“David built there an altar unto the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.” (1 Chronicles 21:26) This then caused God to tell the angel to put his sword away, for enough was enough. However, now knew that God’s wrath was real and was afraid of the angel. My friends, if you are in sin, don’t delay the day you repent, but get right with God. 3Jesus is returning with a sword as well, so be found on His side and not against Him, or else you also will be destroyed.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will begin to seek Your hand, that they may be able to distinguish right from wrong in this world. The devil is so crafty and more often then not makes things appear to be good on the outside, although his plans are filthy on the inside. This only leads people that fall for his schemes to be guilty and shameful afterwards. This temporary pleasure that we get from lust and worldly treasures are good for in moment that we indulge in them, but these actions always have consequences afterwards. We are not only racked because of our sins, but people around us are also hurt by what we’ve done. People may also feel used and not trust us anymore because of the choices we made. And I know that Your wrath is upon the wicked, but Your peace is upon the righteous. People living in sin ought to repent and come to You in prayer while asking for forgiveness, lest they die in their sins and have to face You in judgement. This will not be a fun time, but very fearful, for they did not know You and now know the place they will be sent to for all eternity. And knowing this Lord, it makes me very sad to think of all the millions of people that are in this same boat. This world has become so filthy, wretched, and wicked, and it will take a life change to come out of the mess people are in. It will take Your hand to pull people out of the mess they have caused. And for people to regain trust in them, it will take Your mighty hand to pierce the hearts of people to forgive them also. As You forgive us as sinners, we are to forgive others as well. We do this because we love You and want to be forgiven ourselves. Who is it for us to keep grudges when You don’t do this when we repent? So lead us on Your path, which leads to heaven. May we depart from evil and get in right standing with You, starting today. I believe in You. I trust You. I love You, Lord. Amen.

24 And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:
2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.
3 And again they said, Alleluia And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.
4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.
5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.
6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.
17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;
18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.
19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
