Do You Truly Love Jesus?

Have you ever wondered if you really love Jesus the way He wants us to? Well, you can know this to be true or not if you are reading what Jesus said in the four gospels. In one instance, we have Jesus asking Peter if he loved him, then telling him that if he did to 2“feed my sheep” (John 21:16) and to 2“feed my lambs” (John 21:15). Which means to care for people in the church that have heard the voice of the Lord and are now following Him. So he was calling him to watch over the flock of Christ. He would do this by telling them the truth of God, that they may keep following Jesus and not go off course. Jesus also wanted him to visit them in their needs, encourage them, and pray for them as well. Sure, these three questions about Peter loving him could be because he also denied him three times. However, in any case, we can learn a great lesson from what Jesus asked of him. Just think of how Jesus came to him, after knowing he had just denied him. He said, 2“Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these.” (John 21:15) And then also, 2“Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me?” (John 21:16) So he called him by name and said, do you love me more than other people and your possessions. Based on his answer he would know if he truly loved him. This really had him thinking about his priorities and should do the same for us. Know that Jesus wants to know if we love Him as well. So do you love Jesus?

A few chapters back, Jesus helped us and his disciples back then know how to love Him. Jesus said, 1“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15) 1“He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me. (John 14:21-24) 1“Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.” (John 14:28) Wow, so much rich knowledge is to gain here, even from the mouth of our King. Now we know that loving Jesus means keeping His commandments and doing what He says. We also love Him even while He is gone, for the Holy Spirit is with us now. However, people that don’t love Jesus, don’t do as He says. And this should cause people to worry if they are not in right standing with God now. Therefore, repent if you do not love Jesus, but only say you do.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I love You. I don’t just say this but mean it God. You are the best part of my life. No person or possession I own takes precedence over my love for You. For how can anything match the joy that You have delivered me. You are my greatest delight and I lift You up in praise. I know that if I have done anything good in this life, that it comes from You. In Your strength, I am able to care for needy and preach the gospel with boldness. Even Your commandments have become honey to my taste. I love to walk in Your ways and do as You say. Speak to me Lord, and I will obey. Whatever You wish to teach me, counsel me in, call me to do, ask me to help, comfort, pray for, love on, or teach, I am ready to answer Your call. Thank You so much for hearing my prayer two weeks ago and for helping this young lady give her life to You in prayer. I am so happy to know that she is reading the Bible daily now and cannot put it down. This is a testament about the Bible and how it is so powerful. Lord, the day that You first spoke to me I was in tears and ready for my next journey in life. I am now thrilled when I now hear Your voice, for You have something great in store for me. You are my God and I worship You. I am Your son and so blessed to be forgiven and have found grace and mercy in Your sight. I love You. Amen.

John 21
2John 21 (KJV)
1 After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.
2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.
3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher’s coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.
9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.
11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.
14 This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdest thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
