Jesus Is The Light Of The World

The birth of Jesus Christ is vital to our faith in Him. It is because He came into the world, that we have new life and life abundant. Therefore, as Christians and during this Christmas season, we rest our minds upon His glorious birth. Some people may turn to Matthew or Luke to get the story of Jesus’s birth and that is always good and praiseworthy. However, the story of how Jesus came into the world, from the mouth of John, is also important. In John, chapter 1, we learn all about how Jesus came into the world, of which is very much related to His birth and ministry upon the earth. And for this reason, we will open up to verse 1 and read how this all began. So let us now read the following passages together… 2“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” (John 1:1-5) How glorious is this, my friends? Jesus is God as was spoken in these verses. And even before He was born, He was with the Father and the Father was in Him. We learn so much about Jesus and who He was before His birth, that He is our creator, both heaven and earth. Everything that has life and has since died, has breath because of Him. He is the light that came into this dark world and only those that are for Him understand this. He is then able to shine His light through us, as His humble servants on this earth.

Did you know that Luke also refers to Jesus and light in the same reference? In Luke, chapter 2, we hear this from the words of Simeon, a devout man of God, who had the opportunity to hold the baby Jesus first hand. And when He did this, he said, 1“Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.” (Luke 2:29-33) As was spoken, we learn that part of Jesus’s mission on earth was to be a shining light among the Gentiles and His people Israel. Therefore, His light and love are for all mankind. Nobody is left out. His salvation is for everyone. Now, to conclude, John said that He 2“was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:9-13) Therefore, if Jesus’s light is in You now, then you are born again in the Spirit. You have also become His Son or daughter. How blessed we are to know the Lord and for His mercy to be extended to us. God is so good to those that believe in Him and do His will. So lift Him up, my friends in and give Him praise!

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, thank You for coming down to this earth and for paying the price for our sins on the cross. Because of Your mercy and grace, I am healed from the different scars in my life. No longer do I suffer in pain and anguish because of my past transgressions, for You have forgiven me. The day I called upon Your name in all brokenness and humility, You had compassion for my soul and gave me hope. Where there was no hope to be found, You ushered into my life peace that never fails. I’ve heard many times in my life how You are the light of the world but never understood what this meant until You came and rescued me. Now I know that Your love is for real, for you have lighted up my whole life. I am no longer down and out because of the lusts of the flesh, for I am able to overcome temptation through the strength You give me. If I am an overcomer and have been able to give up different things that I know are wrong, it is not by my own strength at all that does any of this, but by Your hand of mercy in my life. Surely, You have come like a wildfire in my life and saved my soul from hell, while lifting me upon the path of righteousness. I have no more need to fear death, for my home is already made in heaven, with You, Jesus. All I want to do now is praise You, and help others know You also. May more people draw near unto You and be saved. This is my heart’s desire, to help those in need and, more importantly, teach Your gospel message of hope for all that will hear. I love You, Lord. I give You the praise and the glory, this day. Amen.
