A Child Was Born, According To Isaiah’s Prophesy

A very famous song that is sung this time of year is called, “For Unto Us A Child Is Born”. I am pretty sure you all have not only heard it, but sang it in church and even while caroling many times over. And why is this song so popular, it is because it is based on Isaiah’s prophesy in Isaiah, chapter 9, of which came true when Jesus was born. And did you know that this song is very old as well? It is indeed, and was made as a part of Handel’s Messiah, of which Handel produced in the year 1741. How amazing is this that we are still singing this song almost three hundred years later. And we should, for it speaks of the prophecy of Jesus and His birth, while giving Him the praise and glory. Surely, Handel was Spirit led when he produced this most spectacular song, that was included in the Messiah. And like I mentioned before, the lyrics can be found in Isaiah. Those verses are the following… 1“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) And these are not just lyrics to that song or verses in the Bible, but true characteristics of Jesus, our Lord, and Savior. If you are filled with the Spirit, then you will see how Jesus is all of these things and more. He is our God, our counselor, the prince of peace, and the Father, since the Father dwells in Him. He is so wonderful, my friends. The more you seek Him in His Words and in prayer, the more He will present Himself to you personally.

Now, although the song ends here, the next two verses also speak of Jesus and should also be spoken of and even sung as well. It reads, 1“of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.” (Isaiah 9:7,8) We will now examine what these verses mean, as we did with verse 6, through the Holy Spirit, as our guide. As was said in the previous verse, we learn more about Christ’s government, which is upon His shoulders. That it started when Jesus was born and has increased since that time. Along with His government, does His peace have no end. God is ruling supreme and every person that believes in Jesus has His peace with them at all times. His kingdom is also increasing, and those that are for Him are a part of it. All this is established based on Him performing justly, with judgment also. Those that are on His side receive mercy, but all those that are against Him will be judged based on their evil deeds. Only the Lord, our God, can perform such things, without anything inferring with His judgment. And lastly, when Jesus came into the world, He lit up Israel, while He now lights up the hearts of those that believe in Him. All this we learn from God’s Holy Word, the Bible. Praise God for these words of encouragement. God is so good! Now give Him praise and glory.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I am amazed every time I get to read and study about Your amazing birth. More importantly, does my heart rejoice when I read Your words in the Bible, for they are holy words indeed. Thank You for speaking to us through scripture. Surely, my mind has been opened to Your teachings in the most beautiful way each time I read and listen to the verses. Even today I was caught up in the verses in Isaiah, chapter 9. Surely, this man was given such an amazing prophesy of Your birth, that will forever be sung in songs of praise to Your great Name. As Isaiah spoke, no person is more wonderful than You. You are the greatest counselor of all. There is everlasting peace in Your hands, oh God, the everlasting Father. Thank You, Lord, for ushering in good tidings of great joy to all the world in Your birth. Because You have come to this earth, we have mercy and forgiveness of sins. Your light is shining brightly upon those that believe in You. I am so blessed to have You in my life, oh Lord, and for You brightening my day, each and every day that I live. All I need is found in You. The greatest joy cannot be found in things that this world creates or offers, but only what comes from above. Therefore, I trust in You in all things. My life is complete because You are a part of it. I love You, my Lord. All the praises and glory to Your Name. Amen.
