Mary Magnified Her Son, Who Is The Lord

After Mary’s visit from the angel Gabriel, she went with haste to see her cousin Elizabeth, who lived on the hillside. You can just imagine how she was feeling after this angelic visit. Therefore, seeing somebody she trusted was important to her. This is that story from Luke, chapter 1. It reads, 1“and Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda; And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth. And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.” (Luke 1:39-45) How amazing was it that John, who wasn’t even born yet was excited to also have Mary in his presence. Immediately, Elizabeth knew that Mary was also carrying a baby, who was the Lord of all. Therefore, she called her blessed, which makes sense, since God was to come through Mary.

After Elizabeth rejoiced in Mary’s son, Mary also rejoiced in him. And because she said some amazing things through the Holy Spirit, there is less I have to say but share what she said. 1“And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.” (Luke 1:46-56) Wow, what was spoken here was very prophetic of her son. She spoke of what He would do for His people and even what He has already done for His people in the past. Now because there is so much here to absorb, we will zero in on what she said in the next paragraph.

So let’s now look at what Mary said and rejoice also in those things. #1. Her son is the Lord God and Savior. #2. Holy is the name of her son. #3. There is mercy upon those people that fear Him. #4. He gives those that seek Him strength through His arm, while scattering those that are lifted up in their pride. #5. Those that are mighty are brought down low, while the humble are exalted through Him. #6. Those that are hungry are filled with good things, while the rich are sent away empty. #7. He remembered and still remembers Israel through His mercy. #8. Jesus, our Lord, spoke to the prophets of old, including Abraham, and to His seed forevermore. Wow, did you get all of that? It is amazing to think of all she came to know in that moment that she was filled with the Spirit of God. Surely, having the Lord in her womb helped out a lot, of course. So now let us rejoice as Mary did in our Lord God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Because He came to earth and through the cross, we have forgiveness of sins and mercy is shown unto us also. He is the God of Abraham and those that are adopted in through faith in His holy Name. So if you are hungry, the Lord will fill your needs. If you are humble, you will be lifted up. Praise the Lord for all that He is and does for us. We are so blessed to have a Savior, who is alive, in Jesus.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I am grateful to know You and to learn from You each day. It is truly an honor to believe in the God of the heavens and earth. Your name is holy and I give You the honor and praise. There is no one like You. Your mercy endures forever, even though we don’t always deserve it. Thank You, God. Every day that I seek You, You lift me up and give me the strength to carry on. I may be weak in the flesh, but in the Spirit I am strong. You see me in my brokenness and fill me up with Your peace. The world cannot even compare with the good things You have prepared for my life. I am tired of feeling guilty because of sin and am grateful to be on Your path of righteousness. I don’t have to worry about being shameful, for You light up my life and my path ahead of me. I have no need to fear the enemy or death, for You are by my side, and I am happier than ever. To die in Your arms would be an honor and what I hope for. It is my prayer, Lord, that more people will come unto You this day. And help these people that do to desire Your will for their lives, instead of their own. Then can You may cleanse them from the inside out, as You have cleansed me. For them to be sanctified by Your blood is life-changing, and therefore, I wish everyone could experience it. Then could You use them, as You’ve used me, for Your kingdom. I don’t wish to keep this love to myself, but share it with others. I love You, Lord. All the praise and glory to Your holy Name. Amen.
