TV Time Or Time With God

We easily get off track if we ingest our lives with TV instead of the Bible and prayer. This is truly starving us from the presence of the Holy Spirit. You may think, nah, there is a lot of time in a day, I can just read the Bible and pray afterwards. So you begin your favorite TV series and the show ends with a cliffhanger. You even look up the episode later on and get the nitty-gritty details of it. Then it happens, your flesh gives in and you watch the next episode. And before you know it, your day has been consumed with TV and other things that your flesh desired instead of things that could have led you to God. It is now late and you make excuses. You may say, I am tired, I have another day to read the Bible and pray. I’ve read it a lot anyways, what does a day mean in the scheme of things. And so your life spirals down this path of making excuses for your lost time with God. This can truly lead a person a drift from God, even to the point of losing their salvation, unless they repent and come fully back to Him. So may this be a warning to you. If you continue doing this and watch things that are not inviting to the Holy Spirit and you die this way, then your soul will be lost forever in hell. This is why it is important to think about your life and what you really want out of it. Do you want to fulfill the lusts of the flesh and die in your sins or fulfill the will of the Spirit and be found worthy in judgement?

If you were to give your time to God and lay off all that TV watching, then you would be more inclined to read the Bible, pray and do the will of God. This would lead to a more productive life in serving God and doing His will instead of your own. Now let us turn to Philippians 4, verses 6 through 8, so we can know what a Christian should do and be like. It reads, 1“be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” May what Paul said here resonate in your heart, starting today. In doing this, prayer and reading the Bible will be more important. Thinking on and doing things that God approves of will be something you naturally do. This I pray happens in your life. So before you turn on the TV, think to yourself, have I given myself to God yet? Don’t you think God deserves your time as well? Well, He is does and is waiting. Are you willing to turn off the TV, call upon His Name and read His Words? Doing this will bring new life to your faith.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that we may always make You the king of our lives. And may Your will always come first above all things. This means making time for You in our day, more so than TV and anything else. You deserve our time, for Your building of the kingdom, for our lives are Yours. When I seek You Lord, my thoughts and desires and pure. I am able to think about things that are good and wholesome and I am not led into temptation. Even my desires to serve You is elevated. Truly Your words have made a huge impact in my life and I am so grateful. Your Words are truth and lead me into life. Reading the Bible truly changes me. Thank You Lord. I pray that I may never lose this desire to read and to pray. May the time with You always be more important than anything else in my day. I have wasted too much time watching TV and doing things that will not help me. It has only left my flesh open to temptation and sin. And for this I am sorry. So convict me if I am ever in the wrong, that I may repent and turn from it, right away. Your ways lead to life eternal and I’d rather walk in Your ways instead of my own. No TV show is more important than what You can teach me in Your Word and in prayer. I need You every hour Lord. You are my Savior and my guide. Lead me every day of my life. I trust in You and love You so much Lord. In Your holy Name, Jesus. Amen.
