Jesus Died For Our Sins

Jesus suffered and died for our sins, while on the cross. He did it all for us, that we might be forgiven by His blood and find mercy. When I say suffer, He suffered very much so by the people that scourged him, put “a crown of thorns’ on His head, put nails through his hands and feet, and while being raised on the cross. He also suffered spiritually for all our sins. He took the weight of everyone’s sins and put it upon His shoulders. He did all of this because He loves us so much and doesn’t want anyone to suffer for their own sins. We mean so much to Him, that He took our place and suffered for us. Now let us read from Mark 15, to truly understand what Jesus had to go through.

■ Jesus was scourged and mocked:

Mark 15:15-20 (KJV)
15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.
16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.
17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,
18 And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!
19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.
20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

■ Jesus was crucified, mocked, and in the hour that God looked away, Jesus suffered for our sins:

Mark 15:25-37 (KJV)
25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.
26 And the superscription of his accusation was written over, The King Of The Jews.
27 And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.
28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.
29 And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,
30 Save thyself, and come down from the cross.
31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.
32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.
33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.
36 And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.
37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

Earlier I mentioned that the verses in Mark described Jesus’s suffering for our sins. Now, if you read what was happening in those verses, while He was on the cross, you will better understand this. It is when Jesus said, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” that this very unselfish act was taking place. It is during the time that God looked away and Jesus was to suffer on His own, is when He took upon Himself our sins. He was hurting very much, in order for the price of sin to be paid in full. Even before He died, “Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.” Therefore, His pains were severe physically and spiritually. Now, to put this all together and to help make sense of this for everyone, we will read from Colossians 2.

Colossians 2:13,14 (KJV)
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

As Paul stated, Jesus took upon our sins and forgave our trespasses. Every wicked deed that we have ever committed is blotted out. He took it all away and nailed it to the cross. So who did Jesus do this for? Everyone. And who needs God’s forgiveness? Everyone. But what do we need to do so that His sacrifice is for us? Confession. As John said in 1 John 1, God is willing to forgive us and to cleanse of all our wickedness, when confess our faults to him. This is when we are truly cleansed and made right before God. Our lives a made new and everything is changed for the better. However, those that continue to walk in darkness, but say they are for Jesus is a liar and does not have the truth in them. In conclusion, please read the verses below and repent before God. Turn from your wicked ways and give your whole heart to God, starting today, and you shall be forgiven and set free.

1 John 1:5-10 (KJV)
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Let us pray:
Lord God, I am so grateful for Your sacrifice for sins. Surely, it was nothing You were forced to do but willingly suffered, that we might live. You took ever scourge and beating for us. You bled and suffered much by the weight of the nails in Your hands and feet, while being raised on the cross. Knowingly, You took every weight of sin and put it upon Your shoulders for us. We did not deserve such love and compassion, but You showed it anyways. It is because You are such a great and merciful God, that You did not want anyone to go to hell but be forgiven and go to heaven when we die. And You made the way for all of this. Where there was darkness, You shined Your light through it and gave us the path to walk. I am so grateful just to know You, Jesus. I am so grateful that You heard my confessions and had mercy for my soul. I know it is all because of the cross that I am forgiven. Thank You for bearing the weight upon Yourself for my sins. Thank You Lord. I am not capable of living a life that is right in Your sight, but through the Holy Spirit, I am more than able. And through the Spirit, I have my guide. You did not leave any of us comfortless, for You are always there for us. Your presence speaks peace to my heart, mind, and soul. You have given me grace. Thank You Jesus. I love You. Amen.
