God Helps Us Love

It is love that makes us the most joyful of all. We all want more of it but many of the same people do not wish to give it. But how do they think that they can we have what they cannot give? Can’t you see how wrong this really is? People want things from one another but are not willing to do the same in return? This is the opposite of what Jesus said and therefore contrary to God. The Lord Jesus said, 2“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” As we read this, did He say love God alone? No! He said to love God and our neighbor. Did He ask us to take but not to give our self? No! We are to serve, even before being asked to be served. John spoke about this as well, when he said, 3“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?” Therefore, to keep grudges against people and to keep hate in our hearts is of the devil. This dark spirit needs to be expelled from our lives and the only person that can do this is God. With His love in our lives all wickedness is scattered. When our hearts are open, it is love that fills it.

When God’s love comes into our lives, our desires are flipped upside down. Instead of wanting so much, we instead give what we can. People’s desires become our needs. To do things in favor of one another is fulfilling not only their needs but our needs as well. Solomon’s wife spoke of what this love does in our lives when she said to Solomon, 1“Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.” As you read what she said, it is evident that she desired that her love be written upon every part of Solomon’s body. She wanted him to know that she would never leave his side but always be there for him. Waters and floods refer to hard times in their marriage, but in all that she said that it 1“cannot quench love”. Why is this? Because she was holding onto it with her whole heart and soul. The same can be said with God’s love. When we hold onto His love and the love we already have for one another, that love is elevated to new heights. Nothing can stop the marvelous things you will do for one another.

Let us pray:
Lord God, I know that many people are now consumed with worldly things that take their time away from their family, friends, spouse and most importantly You. At the same time, their desires for things have not stopped. They want so much and at the same time are unable to give themselves. I know that this is because Your love is missing in these people’s lives. Because people have filled their lives with so much darkness Your love has no place in them. I pray that people will be humbled, this day. May they desire something greater in their lives. May they see what people are doing for them and realize that they are not doing so much themselves. May this prick their hearts and have them look to You for forgiveness and mercy. You have the power to change their lives and scatter the darkness that is within them. As many people I know are like this, I ask that You help them as well. It is love that this world needs. Help them and every person understand that loving one another is Your calling for us. We surely cannot say we love You if loving one another is not a part of our lives. Help us be valiant and faithful to You and to our fellow men and women. I trust in You God. I love You. Amen.
