God’s Wisdom Is Greater Than Our Accomplishments

Our own wisdom may seem great. Especially in the moment we are in now. We may be having some success in our lives and good things are happening because of it. However, what we accomplish does not come close to the wisdom we can get from God. Solomon thought the same way, as he looked upon what he had accomplished, but the wisdom God gave was greatest than even his own wisdom. He said, 1“this wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me.” However, he reflected on a man that was poor, but at the same time wise, that changed his thinking on wisdom and knowledge. He said, 1“there was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.” Much like people that live and die helping and loving people along the way, because of God’s great love, famous actors, sports stars and musicians are remembered while their name is forgotten. This is the world we live in. Unfortunately, the wisdom that can save the people is not desired, while the person with much fame and fortune is looked at an idol.

As you read God’s Word, you will come to know that living for Him and doing His will is not favorable for most people. The things they can do for and with God doesn’t seem to match the things they can do on their own. What they have achieved is already great and sufficient for them. Their inner strength has helped them, along with the people that have shaped their lives. However, what these people will soon find out, come judgement day, is their great works do not save them. Only by learning of God and following Him can we obtain salvation. Trusting in Jesus is what allows His blood to cover our sins and forgiveness comes. This is such an amazing thing that God does for us. It is sad that it is often times not important to people. Solomon said, speaking of that poor man, 1“wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.” As followers of Christ, we are also poor in spirit and humble before Him. His words fall upon us and it illuminates our lives. God’s wisdom is surely better than anything we can gain in life. It does take repentance and confession of our sins to the Lord. But when we finally turn from our sins, in order to follow Jesus, this will be the best decision that we will ever make.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, come and open the eyes of the blind. Give them ears to hear. Help them understand that what people do and gain in this life is insufficient without You. Help them realize that all their accomplishments will not help them come judgement day. Prick their hearts that they may come to a realization that they are a sinner and need a Savior. I know that many people will reject such conviction but the humble will respond and come forth. Lead these people by the hand, that they have turn from their sins and follow You, Jesus. I know that Your grace is sufficient for all people that come to You. Thank You for Your forgiveness and mercy. I pray that these same people will experience Your compassion for them. Then, will they obtain the greatest wisdom of all. Surely, the knowledge You give surpasses our own understanding. As you teach them, as You teach me, they will begin to see the truth. Thank You Lord for searching us out and leading us on the path of righteousness. I am so grateful to be given such wisdom and be led by You. You are the rock of my salvation. I love You. Amen.

1Ecclesiastes 9:13-18 (KJV)
13 This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:
14 There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it:
15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
16 Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.
17 The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.
