Godly Sorrow Worketh Repentance

For every sin that we commit, we ought to repent and come to God about it. We pray that we may not do the same thing again. There is sincerity in our actions. We truly are sorry and do not wish to commit the same vile acts again. We know how we offended God and the Holy Spirit by our actions. 3The sin has also tarnished the temple of the Holy Ghost, that is inside of us. We feel terrible about what we’ve done. For this reason, we earnestly pray and give it all to God. The sorrow that we feel is a good thing and can be what allows God to change our lives. Paul taught, 4“godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation.” So yes, this feeling of guilt is what leads us to repentance and a refreshing with God. In times past, we may have said, “oh nobody saw that” or “just one time won’t hurt anything”. We’ve all had our excuses for our sins and many people still do this with their sins, to this day. It would be so much easier if they just allowed themselves to be viewed as God sees them in their sins. Then they would see how God hates sin. How every time that we willfully do something that is wrong, it offends Him. He wishes that we be cleansed but He cannot force our hands. His wrath is for the wicked but there is hope for those that come to Jesus in sincere humility, with confessions of their sins. 1God is always ready to take us in when we deny ourselves and give ourselves to Him.

When we no longer wish to fall under temptation and sin, that is God drawing us to Him. It is His power that helps us defeat Satan in his trickery. We are weak when it comes to sin but we are strong when the Lord is in our lives. We are strengthened daily to walk differently and to fight against the darkness that lays hold upon our lives. It is true that the darkness wants to take us under but the Lord God is continually pointing us to the light. We can see this to be true when we are seeking the Lord Jesus in prayer and worship. God can see everything we do in life, therefore, why not just give it all to Him. He can see through our lives and what needs to be changed, if you just ask Him. Just think about what the angel said to John, when he said, 5“be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent.” Be wise and do not let a day pass without praying and asking God for forgiveness for sins you’ve committed. Please know that it will be a huge load off your back. And if you are sincere, the Lord knows it. That is why confession of sins leads to salvation. Paul taught, 2“if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Repent today and come to Jesus.

Let us pray:
Lord, help us all to turn from our sins. Each time we fall under temptation, prick our hearts that we may know what we’ve done is wrong, that we may repent. May their be sorrow in each of us that leads to confession of sins. We are sorry for the sins we have committed today, oh Lord. We do not wish to offend You again. We also do not wish to be tarnished by the lusts of our flesh any longer. Have mercy upon us Lord. Have compassion for our lives and lead us away from the darkness. Cleanse our hearts and minds that we may think and live differently. Help us continually look to You in faith that we may no longer fall willingly into sin. We know that our flesh is weak without You but with You in our lives, we are strong. We can fight the battles that rage in this world and become victorious. With You at the head of our lives we can fight all battles and come out on top. I wish to live for You Lord, not just now, but all the days of my life. Lead me by the hand and strengthen me daily. I need You in my life always. I love You. Amen.

1Matthew 16:24-27 (KJV)
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

31 Corinthians 6:15-20 (KJV)
15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

6 Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;
7 And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.
8 For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.
9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
12 Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.
13 Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.
14 For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.

3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
