The Ten Virgins

Let us look into the lives of the ten virgins. Five of them went forth with oil in their lamps, while the other five did not. Half of them lived with light abundant while the others lived in darkness. One thing to note is that all of them, in the beginning, 1“went forth to meet the bridegroom”. So all of these people were either Christian, coming to Christ, or so-called Christians. All of them new of Jesus but only half of them lived for the Lord. Because of the way each of these people lived, only half had the Holy Spirit to guide them while the others walked in their own ways. Because our flesh is weak, sin crept into the lives of those that had faith in words alone. Their sins may have started off small but overtime became very addictive. The more they tried, the harder it was to control on their own. There secret lives were beginning to seep through their so-called righteous countenance. If this life is yours, then repent. 2If you have not been born again, then you are living in the flesh and not on the path to heaven. We can say all we want to that we believe in Jesus but our faith is dead if God has born no fruit through us. Don’t let darkness overcome your life. Satan has the power to drag us down to hell if we are not living for God. There is a difference in the hearts of people that have true faith in God. For Jesus is able to work through them. They cannot resist temptation on their own but are able to do all things with the Spirit of God in their lives. God is all powerful and can do a mighty work in those that truly believe in Him. Jesus is speaking to each of us, through this parable. Don’t be found foolish but wise in the ways of God.

Jesus teaches that five of the virgins carried their lamps with oil to light their path. They could see what dangers were before them and stand against it. The light of the Holy Spirit did much to guide and direct them in the ways of the Lord. Not only this, those around them were very blessed. Because they didn’t let the fire of the Lord go out, they weren’t afraid to share their love for Jesus with others. Caring for the sick and needy became natural to them. The love of God came through them into the lives of others. Just as Jesus comforts us when we are weary, these people visited and helped those in need. It was the least they could do. We know that the foolish virgins or so-called believers didn’t live a life like this. Their faith was more outward facing but their heart was full of deceit and malice. But then, as everyone slept, the Bridegroom came, in the clouds. People screamed and shouted for what they saw. Many were sore afraid but the wise virgins or Christians were ready. They trimmed their lamps, once again, or called upon the Lord in prayer and worship. The foolish knew in their hearts that they weren’t ready and tried to prepare at the last minute. However, their time was up and judgement awaited. 1“They that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.” While those that remained pleaded for the Lord to open up to them. But Jesus said, 1“I know you not”. We don’t know the hour that the Lord will return, therefore we must be ready to meet Him every day of our lives. Make everyday a new day to discover the Lord in a new way. Hell only awaits those that delay their repentance till the end.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I choose to live for You. Help me to live apart from sin. Lead me away from temptation. Help me to have the Holy Spirit in my life always. Help me to say no to the dangers of this world. I am sorry. Forgive me of my sins. Cast away all the darkness and lead me into Your light. Help others in sin, come to repentance. Lead us all to openly confess our sins to You daily. Lord, You are worth living for. Nothing brings me more happiness than to serve You. When You are with me, I can better love one another. I can do things I never thought were possible for are there. Your words give me peace. I love Your counsel. Keep me on Your straight and narrow path. May Your light never go dim in my life. I love You. Amen.

1Matthew 25:1-13 (KJV)
1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

2John 3:1-7 (KJV)
1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
