The Lord’s Prayer

Learn from the Lord on how to pray. Jesus truly gives us a road map of prayer in the “Lord’s Prayer”. It is powerful in every way. If you have a heart to learn, let us be taught by the Lord himself on prayer. In His prayer to the Father, he starts off by saying, 1“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” There is honor and respect to our Heavenly Father in these words. His heart is also one with Him in what He says next. 1“Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” His intent is to have the kingdom of heaven come into our hearts. We invite the Lord to make rest with us, through the Holy Spirit, as it is in heaven. His prayer continues, 1“Give us this day our daily bread”. Jesus desires that as we hear His words that we seek to understand. That the words of the Bible may fill our hearts with understanding. We invite the Spirit to speak clearly to our minds. Jesus then prays, 1“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” We are all sinners and in need of a Savior. Ask Jesus to forgive your sins. Ask forgiveness for any debts you have with others and seek to pay them. As He forgives us, we ask the Lord to give us a spirit of forgiveness to those that have wronged us or have debts. The Lord’s prayer continues with, 1“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” There is so much temptation and the flesh is weak. Lest we fall, seek the Lord to be the shield for your life. Lastly, Jesus says, 1“For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen” All praise and honor is to God above. Give Him thanks for your many blessings. Lift up the Lord for everything He does for your benefit and your good.

The Lord’s prayer surely is a roadmap we can all use in our daily prayer life. Also know that Jesus wants a sincere heart in prayer. He doesn’t appreciate us just reciting prayers. Jesus taught, “But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.” Speak to God like you would speak to a friend. Give him reverence and respect but also remember it is welcome to poor out your hearts to Him. Don’t hold anything back but tell Him what is on your mind and what is weighting on your heart. These times of prayer should be often. Even when we are walking down the street, we ought to have a prayer in our hearts. We can talk to Him at any time of the day for He is there with us. At the same time, remember to not pray just to be seen. We don’t deserve any of the glory but God Almighty. Tonight was a wonderful time to read these verses with a new brother in Christ, Victor. It was amazing to see His desire to pray. He was so sincere and loved what Jesus taught on prayer. We were all encouraged by the Lord’s prayer and His example for us.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I honor and praise Your Holy Name. I lift you up high. May Your Spirit dwell in my heart always. Let Your will be done for my life. I give it all to You. I am hungry for Your words. Teach me and fill me with knowledge. Help me to walk in Your ways. Forgive me, as I am sinner. I am sorry for falling into temptation. Shield my eyes from evil. I can’t bear to stand without You in my life. Help me to forgive those that have hurt me. They deserve forgiveness as much as I do. Thank You for everything You do for me. I am so blessed. I love You. Amen.

Let us read the Bible:
Note: Any Numbered References, found above, are listed below.

1Matthew 6:5-13 (KJV)
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
