Run From Sin

When the blessings of God are in our lives, our hearts and minds are in the right place. Joseph was a great example of walking in the ways of God and he was blessed abundantly for it. Because His heart was given to God and not the lusts of the flesh He was able to resist the temptations of the evil one. Many times, Potiphar’s wife would ask him to lie with him. She corned him, a time or two, but his response was, “thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” He understood that to lust after another woman in his heart was adultery. He knew that this adulterous act is very grievous sin in the sight of God. His love for God was greater than the momentary pleasures of the flesh. So the last time, she asked him to lie with her, she cornered him and “caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me. ” However, “he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.” He would have been in danger of bringing down the wrath of God upon him but he went out victorious for God was with him. Just like in this example, God teaches us that fornication and adultery are sins that will keep us far from Him. If someone is living in this type of lifestyle, they must repent of their great wickedness. They are sinning against God each day and His wrath is upon them. Hell is their reward if they do not repent and come to Jesus. Only He can cut down the walls of addiction. Accepting His sacrifice on the cross will renew our hearts and minds.

Do we run from our sins or let the sin take root in our lives? When we face a temptation do we easily give way to it or do we put up our guards to deflect it? What kind of guards do we have up, if any? Is the Lord our strength or are we trying to deflect Satan’s lies and deceptions on our own? With every temptation there is going to be a different outcome depending on the lives we are living. If it is own free will, we will most likely stumble and fall but if Jesus is in our hearts His wall will come up and deflect Satan’s fiery darts. The Lord is much stronger than we could ever be in our fight against Satan. He can bind him when he is trying to make us fall into His deception. Jesus loves us and His love cannot be in us if we are living in sin. Don’t let sin linger in your life. When you put your guard down and give way to the flesh, that is when addiction starts. God is calling us and doesn’t want us to stumble in life. He is our Savior. Reach out to Him. Don’t give way to the temptations and lies that Satan is trying to throw at us. They only lead to destruction and death. There is a better life to lead in the love of Christ. Stand up for God and you will make better choices. Live for Him and your guard will be up. Oh Lord, thank You for freeing me from my addictions. My flesh was out of control until I let You in. You changed my life and now my shield is raised to the evil one. He has no power over me for You are my strength. You are my great defender. I love You.

Genesis 39:4-12 (KJV)
4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.
5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.
6 And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.
7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.
8 But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;
9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
10 And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.
11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.
12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.
