Secret Sins And Its Impact

In the world, many people keep secrets from their spouses, family and friends for their own sakes. Because of the lusts of the flesh and for unclean things they have sinned and don’t feel the need to open up about it. They don’t see how their secrets could impact another person’s life. Instead they continue sinning and living their lives as if nothing has happened. However, there is one who knows the truth and that is God. He sees everything and the impacts our sins are making on others. Nothing is hidden before Him. He knows who has repented of their sins and who keeps their sins bottled up inside them. Keeping a secret from someone we love can bring about unneeded shame and devastation on their end. Telling someone a lie just to better our situation will not do us well in the long run but only fester up inside of us. We may not know it but others may be impacted greatly because we aren’t telling the truth. Just like Joseph was thrown into a pit, sold to a Ishmeelite because of rage, his brothers actions only brought their father’s anguish and pain. Their father wept and they still kept quiet about him being alive. I ask if it is worth it to keep a secret for our sake even it is will devastating to another? Come to Jesus this day and no longer find yourself covered in sins because of shame. Repent and turn away from your sins. Confess openly to God that you are sorry for the things you have done. If you have hurt anyone by your lies tell them the truth and say sorry. Don’t let anyone live in bondage because of what we have done. The Lord will help you mend broken relationships.

The story of Joseph, being sold into Egypt and then his death being lied about is saddening. I feel for the loss Joseph’s father must have felt in that moment. My heart brakes when Jacob said, “I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.” I could just imagine the guilt the brothers of Joseph had to carry because of this. I can relate to this, as I kept much shame and guilt inside of myself for years. My heart was wracked because of my secret sin I carried inside of me. My addiction to pornography always had my wife wondering about my behavior towards her and other woman. We had unnecessary arguments over things because I just wouldn’t open up to her. Our marriage was on the rocks until I gave my heart to Jesus. When I found the Lord in my life I no longer had a need to lie anymore. For this I openly confessed my sin of pornography to my wife. I told her how long it had been going on and how sorry I am for what it has caused her. Though my heart didn’t seek it any longer I knew it would be a struggle to regain her trust back. I just asked for her to forgive me as I walked in this new life with Christ. That I was sorry and hoped to start fresh again as I have with the Lord. She stayed with me and our love is starting to grow each day. Thank You Lord for restoring my life. Thank You for taking me in, though my heart was so far from You. Thank You for giving me boldness to confess my sins to others. Saying sorry for what I’ve done was very comforting. You give wise counsel. Help me to stay strong in Your ways. I love You and am fulfilled in Your love.

Genesis 37:23-35 (KJV)
23 And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him;
24 And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.
25 And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.
26 And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?
27 Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.
28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.
29 And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his clothes.
30 And he returned unto his brethren, and said, The child is not; and I, whither shall I go?
31 And they took Joseph’s coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood;
32 And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son’s coat or no.
33 And he knew it, and said, It is my son’s coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces.
34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.
35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.
