Do Not Add To The Bible

For over a thousand years it has been established that the Bible is the only Word of God. People know the Bible to be God’s inspired Word. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God.” God’s Word is pure and should not be added to. Those that add to or modify the Bible, God will rebuke. “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” This warning is true today even though people, like Joseph Smith, now claim there is another gospel or book of scripture given to him by an angel. We must not be deceived, for it is said, “but though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” There is a verse in Revelation that says, “If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life”. Sure, this verse may be referring to the book of Revelation but the warning here is heavy for those that modify that book.

The Bible references to the quotes above are below…

The Bible is inspired.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

The Bible is pure and should not be added to.
Proverbs 30:5-6 (KJV)
5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

The Book of Revelation should not be added to.
Revelation 22:18-19 (KJV)
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Joseph Smith (First Prophet of the Mormon Church) did add to and take away from the Book of Revelation. See below (Using the KJV version of the Bible here since this was the translation Joseph Smith used when he modified it)….

Revelation 5:6 (KJV)
6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

Revelation 5:6 Joseph Smith Translation (JST)
6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having twelve horns and twelve eyes, which are the twelve servants of God, sent forth into all the earth

Note: in the link above, it explains that 12 is used in the JST translation to mean the twelve apostles. Seven was removed and twelve was written in place of it. Since Jospeh Smith changed the wording in the Book of Revelation then his name was removed from the book of life, like the warning said. Since this is still referred to in lds.org than it means that the Mormon church still believes in this. Anyone proclaiming to be a prophet that modifies or adds to the Bible is a false prophet.

Do not accept another gospel even if an angel preaches it.
Galatians 1:6-10 (KJV)
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

Do not listen to those that preach another Jesus outside the Bible.
2 Corinthians 11:3-4 (KJV)
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
