Flee From Temptation

When we are in the world our flesh is more easily given into lustful thoughts for another. Though we may be married, what is happening inside our heart can seem more important than even our spouse, in that moment. This is when even the littlest sin can rapidly grow over seconds until we are in the act of adultery through that person or through pornography. We have been commanded to not covet for what is not ours. However, there is a fight within everyone that is living in the world, for our flesh is made weak. In these circumstances we do not have what the flesh desires because God is not with us. When our heart is far from God our desires are their also. In these moments our prayers are more for our own pleasures. James taught, “ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.” There is only one escape for this wicked lifestyle and that is Jesus. Leave the world behind and follow Him. For “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” For a humble heart will seek God and submit themselves to Him.

I am thankful that God can take me out of temptation. Even when my flesh feels so weak inside I know there is a way out. I know that if I turn away from my sin and give way to God I will find peace. My safety net is in the Bible. The very moment I start reading God’s Word all my temptations are over. I am made strong in my faith once again. What I’ve learned is if I surround myself with things that are worldly I will be weak but if I choose God I am made strong. Choosing appropriate TV shows to watch that don’t contain nudity, swearing or killing scenes always help. Watching those types of shows only makes me feel like God is far from me and my flesh gets weak. I pray that you turn off what is causing your distractions from God. Flee the devil for He knows when we are weak and will use these moments for his pleasure. Know that the longer you let the temptation sit in your heart the more likely you will give into it. James taught, “submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” I know that God will help you escape temptation if you turn away from it and follow Him. I am grateful to know such a just God. Thank You for Lord for taking me back though I don’t deserve it. I love You.

James 4:1-8 (KJV)
1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
