I Choose To Follow God

Follow the Lord and not your own understanding lest you fall flat on your face. The Lord has the best intentions for each of us. It is up to us to follow Him. We need to give up anything that impedes our progression in the faith. If you are caught up in addictions by the things you own, discard them from your life. If your bad attitudes are caused by people you associate with, discover friends in the faith. Be around people that share common beliefs. If our lives continue down our own paths we will stray further and further from God. We can’t be treading the line when it comes to our faith. We need to be all in for Jesus. Something must give in our lives. Nothing will change if our hearts aren’t given over to the Lord. On the way out of Sodom, Lot’s wife was on the path of her husband but her heart wasn’t in it all the way. Deep down she still had strong ties with the people of Sodom. Therefore she “looked back” “and she became a pillar of salt”. Judgement was made on the city of Sodom that day and she wasn’t excluded. The Lord was waiting for her to give her whole heart to Him but she couldn’t do it. She couldn’t give up the one thing that was holding her back from God. We can either find temporary happiness in our own lusts or discover eternal joy in the Lord. My prayer is that we turn our hearts from our wicked ways and trust in God. His ways are true. We can find rest in the Lord. He can do mighty wonders in each of our lives if we let Him. We must let Him fill our hearts with His love.

When the Lord asks us to do something do we question His motives? Does His tasks seem too difficult to achieve? The closer we are to God the more we will trust in Him. His Love will be in our hearts and help our decisions to do good. We will be steadfast in our service towards our fellow men. We won’t need to be told to do what’s right. Our hearts will long to be like Jesus and walk in His ways. It will be a blessing to serve our King. When we fill our lives with worldly things it is easy to forget the Lord. Building up earthly possessions can easily take away your time with God. When the angels delivered Lot from the destruction of Sodom he questioned their motives. They asked him to “escape to the mountains” and instead he replied, “Please, no, my lords!” He desired for an easier course and recommended to flee to a city close by. After spending so much time in that wicked city His trust in God was wavering. His desire was to steer his family and the angels on his own path. We need to decide this day what path we want to follow. Oh Lord, I choose You. You have given me new life. How can I thank You enough for dying for me. Thank You for the cross. You mean the world to me. I will follow You. Where ever you lead me I will go. I will heed your counsel. I will stay strong in the Word of God. Your words are a lamp unto my feet. My heart is yours. You fill me with your love each and every day. I will stand and worship You. I lift You up in the highest praise. I love You, my Lord.

Genesis 19:17-26
17 So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.”
18 Then Lot said to them, “Please, no, my lords!
19 Indeed now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have increased your mercy which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest some evil overtake me and I die.
20 See now, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one; please let me escape there (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.”
21 And he said to him, “See, I have favored you concerning this thing also, in that I will not overthrow this city for which you have spoken.
22 Hurry, escape there. For I cannot do anything until you arrive there.” Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
23 The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered Zoar.
24 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens.
25 So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.
26 But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
